Rhode Island Woodland Partnership
-
The Rhode Island Woodland Partnership (RIWP) advances the stewardship and long-term protection of Rhode Island’s woodlands to benefit the local economy, ecological values, and community enjoyment and health. The RIWP strives to increase the impact of forest conservation measures through education and information sharing.

Rio Grande National Forest Adaptation Workshop
-
There is an increasing need to consider the anticipated effects of climate change on ecosystems and identify management actions that respond to these changes. This workshop will support participants from the Rio Grande National Forest in determining which climate impacts are of greatest concern to them, and identify management opportunities for adapting to change. The Adaptation Workbook provides a structured process for integrating climate change considerations into management planning and activities.

Sour Streams in Appalachia: Mapping Nature’s Buffer Against Sulfur Deposition
-
Sulfur emissions are regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency, but sulfuric acid that has
leached into soil and streams can linger in the environment and harm vegetation and aquatic life. Some
watersheds are better able to buffer streams against acidification than others; scientists learned why in
southern Appalachia.

Technical Mitigation Options in Forests
-
Dr. Richard A. Birdsey, a Senior Scientist with the Woodwell Climate Research Center, discusses the forest carbon cycle, the role of U.S. forests in mitigating climate change and helping the U.S. meet its 2050 net zero greenhouse gas emissions goal, and how conditions in the future may impact this critical carbon sink.
