I am a PhD candidate at Virginia Tech and the USGS Virginia Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit working with Dr. W. Mark Ford. My research is on Carolina and Virginia northern flying squirrel microhabitat, habitat selection, and bioacoustics in the Central and Southern Appalachians. I am also involved with red spruce restoration research and a member of the Central Appalachian Spruce Restoration Initiative. Prior to my dissertation work at Virginia Tech, I worked for two years with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) in Asheville, NC where I worked with bats, bog turtles, and Carolina northern flying squirrels. I headstarted the North Carolina Bat Acoustic Monitoring Program for the NCWRC in 2010. I also worked for 2 seasons with at USFS Bent Creek Experimental Forest as a research technician in upland hardwood forests. My masters research was conducted at Northern Arizona University on ponderosa pine restoration, climate change, management, and breeding bird responses.
