Consorzio di Gestione Area Marina Protetta Porto Cesareo

Thanks to its "natural port" facing Isola Grande, also called Isola dei Conigli, Porto Cesareo is one of the most beautiful places of the coast of Salento. It lies only 500 m far from the coast and is covered by a thick Aleppo pine and acacia wood planted by the foresters about 40 years ago. The seabed is characterized by a sub-tropical environment with very particular animal associations typical of the warm seas.

Results included are Byers and Norris 2011 (West Virginia); Furedi et al. 2011 (Pennsylvania), Ring et al. 2013 (New Jersey), Schlesinger et al. 2011 (New York); Virginia Division of Natural Heritage 2010 (Virginia). It also includes the results from species assessed as part of the current study (Sneddon et al. 2015).

Aquatic Records
-
The karst map provides the basic template for analyzing the distribution of cave species. Almost without exception, all caves occur within the karst areas. There were a few records of cave-dwelling species from outside karst areas (mostly springs) but the data was trimmed to fit within the karst areas, with a 1 km buffer to allow for errors in georeferencing). This map displays the aquatic records within karst areas in the Appalachian region.
