Phase I: Alternatives for Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment: Expert Panel Findings
-
How should the Appalachian LCC acquire information about the climate change vulnerability of Appalachian species and habitats? This report summarizes the findings and recommendations of a seven-member Expert Panel that sought to answer this question identified as a major research priority. The Panel addressed three aspects of the question: the selection of species and habitats to assess, approaches to vulnerability assessment, and the availability of downscaled climate data.

Mitigation
-
A collection of resources, plans, and other information pertaining to efforts to reduce or prevent emission of greenhouse gases, the leading cause of climate change. Mitigation can mean using new technologies and renewable energies, making older equipment more energy efficient, or changing management practices or consumer behavior.
-
Adaptation
-
Since impacts from climate change are taking place already, societies and ecosystems will need to adjust to prevent or minimise the damage from these impacts as well as taking advantage of opportunities that may arise.
